RESOLUTION CHAPTER 110

Relative to the California-Queretaro sister state relationship.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

ACR 137, Cortese. Sister state: Queretaro.

This measure would extend to the people of the Mexican State of Queretaro an invitation to join California as a sister state in order to encourage artistic, academic, and professional exchanges and to lead to an indelible friendship and lasting relationship between the citizens of California and the citizens of Queretaro.

WHEREAS, The culture, art, and architecture of California and the State of Queretaro in Mexico share a common history as shown by the presence of missions of great architectural beauty in each state; and

WHEREAS, Queretaro is best known as the birthplace of the Mexican Revolution and for the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which ceded California to the United States; and

WHEREAS, The Governor of Queretaro, Mariano Palacios-Alcocer desires to form a sister state relationship between California and Queretaro, in recognition of the additional common elements of culture, geography, and religious institutions shared by each state; and

WHEREAS, California acknowledges the contributions made to the history of both states, including the legacy left to the language art, architecture, and religious institutions of California, by Father Junipero Serra; and

WHEREAS, A hospital has recently been built in the City of Jalpan, Queretaro, and the exchange of medical and dental personnel would be complementary to the medical development of both states; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate hereof concurring, That California recognizes, honors, and celebrates the common bonds between California and the State of Queretaro; and be it further

Resolved, That the Legislature, on behalf of the people of the State of California, extends to the people of the State of Queretaro an invitation to join California as a sister state in order to encourage artistic, academic, and professional exchanges and to lead to an indelible friendship and lasting relationship between the citizens of California and the citizens of Queretaro; and be it further

Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit a copy of this resolution to the Governor of the State of Queretaro.
