2014

Elk Grove, California to Osaka, Japan

The Elk Grove Unified School District sent 22 students and 3 chaperones to Osaka, Japan from June 4-19 to participate in the 2014 California-Japan Scholars Program.  While there, the students stayed with host families and attended classes at four different high schools.  They studied the Japanese language, culture and history, and took part in numerous extracurricular activities.  They visited the historical city of Nara and explored the Osaka area, visiting the Namba shopping district, Osaka Castle, and the Umeda Sky Building.  During the weekends, hosts families took the students individually to other special places in and around Osaka as well.

Program Reflections

“Everybody was welcoming and kind.  It was a great experience.  The food was the best I’ve ever had.  The group trips were educational, eye opening and fun.  It really opened my eyes to a whole new way of life.  School was very different and exciting, and I enjoyed every moment.”

“I enjoyed this program so, so much.  I enjoyed everything about it and loved the school I went to.  Senri High School was so welcoming.  My host sister and her family were so kind to me too.  I most certainly would want to experience this amazing opportunity again, and I’m sure that future participants would enjoy it as well.”

Hailey McCormick, Student
