November 17, 2022

 

Government and NGO professionals from Ukraine visited the Capitol as part of a U.S. State Department program studying Advocacy of Democratic Principles. They met with Senator Richard Pan (pictured, center) and other Senate staff to discuss communications, the propagation of misinformation through social media, and the negative affects of propaganda on the community.

November 15, 2022

 

A delegation comprised of members of Parliament of Bavaria, Germany, had a meeting with Ms. Margie Estrada, Chief Counsel of the Senate Committee on Judiciary (pictured, right), where Senator Thomas Umberg joined virtually from his district office. They discussed the California court system and the commonalities between California and Bavaria.

 

November 8, 2022

 

The Senate welcomed four members of the Parliament from Kyrgyzstan, participating in a Congressional Open World program focusing on Developing Policies to Protect the Privacy and Data of Citizens. They are pictured here with Mr. Brian Green, Principal Consultant with the Senate Democratic Caucus, with whom they met to get an overview of the California system of government and legislative process.

A delegation from Japan participating in a State Department program on Promoting a Diverse and Inclusive Workforce, visited the Senate to discuss how private and public organizations model recruitment, retention, and leadership programs. They had several meetings during their Senate program, including with LGBTQ Caucus member Senator John Laird (pictured, center).

August 15, 2022

 

The Senate welcomed the Honorable Matthew Mason-Cox, President of the Legislative Council, and the Honorable Jonathan O'Dea, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, of New South Wales, Australia. They visited the Capitol to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sister State relationship between California and New South Wales. This delegation from Tunisia, participating in a State Department program studying Transparency and Accountability in Government, visited the Capitol. As part of their Senate program, they met with Ms. Erin Peth, Chef Counsel of the Senate Legislative Ethics Committee (pictured, center).

The Senate was honored to welcome this year's Mandela Washington Fellows for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. They were introduced on the Senate floor from the Gallery by Senator Steven Bradford (pictured with the Fellows at center), received a VIP tour of the Capitol, and had meetings with several legislative members and staff.

The Honorable Ossian Smyth, Irish Minister of State, visited the Capitol and met with Senators Dave Min and Nancy Skinner (pictured, center) to discuss cybersecurity in the realm of healthcare, and budget solutions. He was accompanied by Mr. Robert O'Driscoll, Consul General of Ireland in San Francisco (also pictured, right).

The Senate welcomed Mr. Alejandro García del Toro, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Cuba in Washington D.C., where he was the first visitor to address the Senate from the chamber floor since the beginning of the pandemic.
