September 11, 2017

 

His Excellency Luis Videgaray Caso, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, accompanied by six officials from the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs, paid a visit to the Capitol on September 11. They met with Governor Jerry Brown and attended a roundtable discussion with eight members of the California Legislature. Here, Secretary Videgaray is pictured with Senator Kevin de León and the Honorable Liliana Ferrer, Consul General of Mexico in Sacramento.

The Honorable Marlene Kairouz, Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Control of the Parliament of Victoria, Australia, visited the Capitol to learn more about California regulations and programs in her field. The Minister met with many organizations, including the Bureau of Gambling Control, Department of Consumer Affairs, Department of Alcohol Beverage Control, and more. Six Members of the National Parliament of Djibouti visited the Capitol on July 13th, participating in a State Department program on State and Local Government. They were introduced on the Senate Floor by Senator Richard Pan. Two of the Djibouti elected officials are pictured here with Senator Holly Mitchell.

A delegation of 25 fellows from multiple countries in Africa participating in the State Department’s Mandela Fellowship program visited the Capitol to attend meetings on California’s government and energy infrastructure. The Honorable Victor Manuel Lemagne Sanchez, Member of Parliament of Cuba, visited the Capitol and was introduced on the Senate floor by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson. Mr. Lemagne’s visit marks the first time since 2001 that a representative of the Federation of Cuban Workers Union has been granted a visa to visit with members of the U.S. labor movement.

Fifteen business leaders from the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Northern California (JCCNC) and the Japan Business Association (JBA) visited the Capitol for their annual visit. They were introduced on the Senate floor by the Honorable Kevin de León, Senate President pro Tempore, and attended various meetings with legislators and executives in the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.

Six officials from Canada, including Consul General in Los Angeles James Villeneuve, Consul General in San Francisco Brandon Lee and Director General of North America Advocacy Jim Nickel, visited the Senate to celebrate Canada Day at the Capitol. President pro Tempore Kevin de León introduced the delegation on the Senate Floor.

Six Mexican Senators from the Commission on Foreign Affairs, North America, visited the Capitol accompanied by a staff member, eight members of the Mexican business community and two officials from the Mexican Consulate General in Sacramento. The delegation attended a round table meeting with Senators Kevin de León, Bill Monning, Jean Fuller, Benjamin Allen, Ben Hueso, Ricardo Lara and Tony Mendoza.
